Question regarding “interpret footage>main>separate field”
I know what it does but I have been confused about when to use it for the longest time and would like to understand it once and for all.
Say, if I have a DV footage (Lower field first) and I want to do something visually drastic like “time remap” and the result is to be used as a part of a DV edit in FCP. Should I “separate the fields”? or should I not since the source and destination are both interlaced the same way? I have been trying to avoid the issue (in my head) by interpreting the source at double the frame rate and rendering the result out @ lossless at double the frame rate for FCP, not very efficient, I figure.
Many thanks in advance
