  • Rotating Animation while keeping certain elements upright

    Hello!

I am trying to pull off an animation technique I’ve never done before.

My goal is to have this graphic (screenshot attached) rotate as a whole, easy peasy. However, as the graphic rotates over time, I would like each icon in the circle to stay in it’s upright position as they rotate around.

My comp: I am using a null layer centered to the comp to handle the full graphic rotation.

I am looking for suggestions on how to have each of those icons stay in its upright position as they rotate around. I’ve tried a couple different methods with no luck. Maybe I’m missing something simple? Not sure.

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

I can’t see your graphic at the moment, but I’ve done similar to what you described before.

Isolate your icons, on layers of their own with their anchors in the centre of each. Parent them to the null.

Hit R on the keyboard to expose their rotation property and do the same for your null.

Use the pick ship to link the icon’s rotation to the null’s. Then edit the expression and add -1

The icons rotation will be the exact opposite direction to the graphic, so it will appear that they stay upright.

    Hi Graham,

Thank you so much for the reply back! It worked exactly as how you described. Here’s the result if you wanted to see:
