  • Stroke Effect on Shape Layer Mask Paths from Illustrator

Ok so I have some handwritten words in illustrator. I have copied the paths of the words and pasted them onto a shape layer in After Effects. I then apply the stroke effect. It works, but it outlines the mask paths instead of drawing them as singular lines.

I feel like i fixed this once before, but I can’t remember how. All I want is for it to basically draw the words from the mask paths I’m pasting in, not the outlines of the words.

I’m sure this is super simple, but I can’t figure out what I’m not doing.

    Thanks for your Help

the only way to get a path as a stroke and not a fill is to set it to uniform width and basic brush in Ai before you copy paste it or convert to shape
