auto-scrolling text if text exceeds text box
hi all,
is it possible to automatically add a scrolling animation to a text if (and only if!) the text is bigger than the text box?
as as example, let’s say i have a text box in my comp with a set size and it shows descriptions of something. some description-texts fit inside the set text box, while other texts are bigger than the text box itself (the text gets cut off at the buttom). if that happens, i’d like the text to scroll up so the rest of the text is eventually shows.
is that possible?

Premiere’s rolling credits might work for that.

any way of doing that kind of thing directly in after effects though? like some clever expression that handles that case?

sourceRectAtTime can retrieve the height of the text box content; you could write an expression that either scrolls up or doesn’t depending on the text height.

thank you but sadly i can’t use that one because i’m still on cc2014 (12.2) and that expression was added on v13 i think. i can’t seem to find anything that’ll help me.
would it be at least possible to automatically adjust the font size if the text is bigger than my text box. so if the text is bigger than my text box, the font size gets smaller so that the text will fit in the text box then?

You can get it to work (roughly) by character count.
