  Buying Imitation Prosumer Cameras

  I’m currently shopping around for an A7RIII and I’ve noticed that there are some great deals available online. The problem is, some of them don’t appear to be selling officially sanctioned Sony products. After some digging, one vendor confirmed that they sell new cameras but that they are either imitations or imports. However, they do offer their own one-year warranty.

  The question is, has anyone ever purchased a camera this way? Would you? It certainly would save me a lot of money, but it does seem potentially risky in that cameras are complicated technologies that deserve to be tested for quality control. What are your experiences?

  Hi,

  Don’t touch the knock-offs. I’d buy used and real Sonys at a discount. Buying counterfeit encourages the industry where pretty soon we won’t know what we’re buying on eBay or other online stores. Good luck.
