Hi
Just wondering how to achieve this look in after effects?

Is it a must to shoot with a green screen to achieve this look? or any footage could have this effect?
I would be very appreciative for your help

In this case the background doesn’t necessary need to be green, but it has to be a flat color you can key. If not a flat color background, you will have to rotoscope the person to cut them out of the background. If you are shooting the footage, a green screen or a blue screen would be the best option.

Thank you Kalle! 🙂 I tried it on old footage and it worked well. I will definitely use a green screen on future projects and key the background. It is better for girls with hairy heads ;P
Just have a last question:
in the same video that I posted, how to do the effect from 00:14 to 00:15 ?
Those 3 frames of band members, they are not just rotoscoped (or keyed) , there is a footage “inside” each one of them…After I rotoscoped, I put the track matte as Luma… and put other footage above it…
but I did not get the “colourful look”Am I missing something?

Put your rotoscoped footage over your colorful footage and set the colorful footage to alpha matte.

It worked! 🙂I have a last question in mind:
how to assign different hues in different areas ? In the video I have posted, the keys on the keyboard have a different hue than the hands playing (blue hands), which have a different hue than the knobs on the keyboard… and there’s some kind of magenta stripes…
How to make a footage colourful like in the examples I have mentioned? (00:14 and 00:15)

Something along the lines of
1) Add Channel Combiner effect, set it from Lightness to Hue
2) Add Hue/Saturation effect, pump up saturation, then adjust hue for suitable result
