I’m a noob to the video world.

I’ve been learning AE and FCPX for fun. Loving it.

I”m filming music videos with green screening and some cheap tongue-in-cheek FX.

I’m having a struggle getting a workflow together.

For instance … after transcoding to ProRes … do I do all the editing in FCPX then move it to AE for the Keying and FX … then BACK to FCPX for the finishing touches?

I have a 3 minute music video with multiple fast cuts (all of the shots are green screened). Should I just Key everything in FCPX?

AE is rough for me to edit in because its not in real time and editing to the music is tough because I don’t have audio playback … or at least not as good as FCP’s editing (cutting) features.

Do you guys have a rule of thumb? i.e. splice in FCP then all FX in AE?

    Whats your pointers?

AE isn’t an editing program so you should do it in FCPX. If you are paying for the CC bundle you are getting Premier Pro as part of the package and you may want to consider it for easier round tripping to AE. Depending on what you are doing you might want to check out automatic ducks plugin for going from FCPX to AE : https://www.automaticduck.com/

I do my editing in an editing application and then my keying and motion graphics in After Effects. Hope this helps and best of luck.

    Thanks for the reply.

    I learned a rough lesson.

But, i did find the keying in FCPX to be easy to figure out and did almost everything in FCPX then flew out to AE for some finishing touches.
