First time I’ve ever encountered this:

I can no longer use rotation in perspective view. (not talking about rotating an object) Zoom and pan work fine — using either the buttons in the upper right hand corner of the window or the alt/mouse shortcuts. But rotation doesn’t work using either. Also…my XYZ lock buttons are properly unlocked.

I feel like this is something simple that I’m just overlooking. But I’ve restarted the program and my computer. No luck.

Any thoughts before I do a reinstall? I don’t mind looking like a fool for overlooking something obvious.

I have occasionally experienced a similar bug in R21, but it’s always pan that stops working. I can, however, always get it working again by restarting C4D. Since restarts don’t work for you, and I assume you don’t have a protection tag on the camera, I am unfortunately at a loss to help… but I do feel your pain.

Concerning the axis lock/unlock buttons, as I understand them they are strictly for restricting the movement, rotation, and scale of OBJECTS while dragging those particular tools in the viewport, and have no affect on CAMERA manipulation.

I hope you get it sorted out.

I have also had this bug in R19 and R20, but resetting/ restarting sorts it for me. Have you tried copying the scene to a new scene and seeing if that makes a difference? And the usual stuff, mouse drivers etc.

Thanks, Jim. The error stays with me from scene to scene, with our without cameras. I’m with you on my understanding of the axis lock/unlock buttons…but that was the only other thing in the layout that occurred to me.

It’s not so much that I mind the reinstall…it’s reinstalling all my plugins. Fortunately, I’ve kept them all in one folder from my last reinstall, so should go easier.

    Appreciate the reach-out!

    Hey Andy,

Good suggestion. That was one of the things I tried, but the error follows me from scene to scene and continues even when I create a new scene from scratch.

At this point I’m making preps for a reinstall.

    Thanks for checking in!

Concerning the pain of reinstalling a lot of plugins, are you using a version of C4D that included the ability to list a search path for plugins in the preferences? I can’t remember at the moment when that change occurred — either R20 or R21 I think. That would save both hard drive space and some of the reinstall hassle.

Edit: I just checked and it was R20 where that change began.
