I’m looking for a non-web-based, non-suscription software I can buy once and forget about it. All I need is to sync a transcript and/or timecoded subtitles onto a video. Normally, when I need to generate subtitles fro videos I’m on I use a professional edition of Dragon Software that’s tuned to my voice and gets me the best possible results. When it’s someone else’s voice, I generally still get much better results from Dragon than any other software. However, no mater how much I search for software that grabs that bulk transcribed text and syncs it up with my video, it seems I can’t find any (or it doesn’t exist).

I know one can get this result in YouTube. But that’s more of a workaround, in my opinion. If your video isn’t meant for YouTube, then having to upload it, make sure to keep it private, wait for it to process, then add the transcript and wait for it to process the sync… well, it just seems like SO MANY unnecessary steps. Whereas a simple piece of software that has similar capabilities as YT would be great.

On the other hand, sometimes I also get material from clients that actually already have subtitles on an SRT file, and that once I re-cut and mess around with the original project, need to be resynced. And in this case, especially, I feel like a piece of software would be great.

The problem with web-based services is that you end up having to pay a lot for something that is really more of a mechanical job that can be donde by AI. If I needed a person to actually transcribe the audio into text, then I would go for one of these online paid services; but as I’ve already invested (and quite a lot) in an audio-to-text transcription software, all I need is to sync.

I’ve tried VideoPad, and that only seems to allow for auto-generated subtitles or manual timecoding; there doesn’t seem to be any way of importing a bulk transcript and having the software sync it.

Transcriptive 2 for Premiere Pro has that functionality, and for simply syncing audio with existing transcript, there’s no additional charge for API use. The product itself is rather pricey, though. You might have already hit upon this or other solution to your problem. If you have found some other solution, please be kind and comment on this reply.

One of the things that makes me hesitant to purchase this product is the Adobe’s plan to integrate transcription feature into Premiere Pro in the near future, which may force the Transcriptive team to mark down the price of their product.

Anyhow, I’ve tried the trial version, and found it (the particular functionality you mentioned) marvellous.
