    Hello,

I am working on my first short film right now and I am kinda confused after doing the retouch in after effects and exporting.

My workflow idea was to export the whole movie from avid in ProRes4444, work with that file in after effects and then export it again from after effects in ProRes4444 for the grade.

Now when I check the file I exported from after effects, the file size is reduced to almost a half of what the initial file from avid had. I don’t really understand why, shouldn’t it be the same or even more?

Sorry if it is a stupid question, I am just not so good with all that codec stuff…

    Best wishes

    Simon

If I remember correctly Avid has an option to render in CBR so the bitrate is constant. Prores is usually VBR (variable bit rate) that will use only as much as it needs so the file can get smaller.
