  Same object, same position but with different backgrounds.

  Hi, I’d need to produce a video where a clock is filmed on different tables in different locations. I would like to keep the clock in the very same portion of the screen and in the exact same position in each shot.

  Basically the object is static and the background changes.

  It’s a technique used often in tv commercials. I am looking for a tutorial or tips that explain how to film and edit in order to achieve this effect.

  You don’t really need AE to pull this off. You simply need to measure and keep track of the details of your shoot (camera position, lens, focal length, distance, etc) and replicate these every time you shoot the clock. It helps if you have a switcher that can split-screen or overlay a monitor on set with the original shot, that way you can ensure it’s lining up properly.
