  Make a layer visible through another layer above it

  As you can see in this image, I have a black layer set to 50% opacity that acts as an overlay. This overlay layer sets above all other layers. I would like the yellow layers to appear clearly ignoring that overlay but without actually moving them above it because there are other layers in-between.

  Is there a way to do that? or there any other technique to achieve what I want?

  If the yellow part is a separate layer, you can use “set matte” on the black solid and select the yellow layer, then invert the matte. This should cut out the alpha of the yellow layer from the black solid.
