How do I brighten both images simultaneously?

https://ibb.co/Bf2W28ZGuys please help
I am working on a logo following a tutorial.
When I try to increase the brightness value on the project panel by the left, it only affects the white glitched image by the right not the logo by the left. What did I do wrong?
Did I miss something?
I’m sure there must be something to make them work simultaneously which I missed…..
By the way I am still new to After Effects so forgive my ignorance..Roberts Adi replied 5 years, 9 months ago 2 Members · 9 Replies -

July 19, 2020 at 2:27 pmIt’s a little hard to tell but I think there’s a clue in the displace label in the comp. I’m guessing that you’re using the fractal noise as a displacement map on the logo? In that case increasing the brightness of the fractal noise is increasing the white areas of displacement map which won’t make the logo brighter just make more of it displaced.
To get your logo brighter, you’ll need to add a colour correction effect to the logo

July 19, 2020 at 3:18 pmRight, so I see Set Matte is used to control the alpha channel and so the brighter the image, the fainter it appears.
So… leave the brightness in fractal noise alone, and in the Glitch comp, make sure the Group layer is selected, then go to Effect > Color Control > Brightness and Contrast.
There’s many different ways to make an image brighter, but brightness and constrast is the simplest. Here you can increase the brightness of the logo.

I hope I can follow the rest of the tutorial using only this method for the brightness

July 19, 2020 at 5:12 pmHmmm there is still a problem
The issue isn’t about increasing the the brightness. The issue is about using the brightness of the fractal noise to manipulate the appearance of the logo by the left.
The process you showed me is only increasing the brightness of the logo. Its not having any effect on it.
I know its a rather sophisticated method but I’d like to know the trick. -

July 19, 2020 at 6:51 pmAh right, so you want to increase the effect, and not dim the brightness? Unfortunately, it looks like that particular tutorial doesn’t allow for that directly. You’ll have to use the brightness & contrast effect to counter the dimming when you increase the fractal noise brightness.
