Downconversion Quality of Ki Pro
Posted by Peter Corbett on April 11, 2010 at 10:38 pmJust wondering what the quality of downconversion is with the Ki Pro when using a HDX900 or Varicam down to SD? Is there any aliasing to speak of?
Cheers,

April 13, 2010 at 5:28 pmAre you recording HD and playing back SD?
The down conversion looks really good.

April 13, 2010 at 8:14 pmNo, I was thinking of playing 720 50P out of the Varicam and recording 576 50i into the Ki Pro on location (for a SD client I have).

April 14, 2010 at 4:03 amHi Peter
We are shooting serial drama with KiPro , using P2HD camera that feed 720P50 to Kipro , but KiPro doing down convertion and record to SD ( crop mode) as here only SD. PostPro use materials from KiPro, they are excited with it.

April 14, 2010 at 5:53 amYes it is a big crew, you are right Peter, 30 people. But after they use KiPro their team become smaller as they get rid of VTR, DAT etc. ( lowering cost as well) . Soon after recording a few schene, the editor that come along with the team do the edit on the spot.
How you utilize KiPro there Peter ? Thanks, Great to share with you.

April 14, 2010 at 8:09 amHi Alex,
I haven’t got a Ki Pro yet. Just weighing up between a Ki and a NanoFlash. I just bought a Varicam H, so I’m keen to get a tapeless system operating.
Do you notice an aliasing in the down-conversion to SD?
BTW, I’ve filmed in Palangkaraya and Tangkahan, mainly orangutans and elephants for zoo AV displays. Here’s one:

Obviously some bad things happen, but I really loved Indonesia and the people.

April 14, 2010 at 9:36 amHi Peter, I see that you have kona card with FCP at your web, excellent.
For tape less operation we have 3 choices :
1. KiPro
2. KiPro
3. KiProI have not try Nano yet, but i think this is also a good solution. But i can not compare them both as they are very far different. Nano in my opinion is tend to be a additional storage for your camera which is very small in size that stick at camera.
While KiPro is ProRess Recorder, A VTR ( video tape LESS recorder) , a converter, a central of your gear on set. You will enjoy on set when you have kiPro like MVP team on the face book. Indeed they love Kipro and they will order more.
Great Movie Orang Utan.. you are lucky you have been there before me. Let me know when you pay a visit to Indonesia, but bring your own KiPro . You may email me at : alex@mediaintegra.co.id if you want to know/ learn the clips that i already recorded with kipro from a few cameras
