Just curious as to what the downconversion quality is like on the Xena LHe card. I know AJA make great stand-alone convertors but I’m just curious at seeing if Xena might be a better solution for integrating HD source material into a SD workflow.

Specifically, what is the aliasing like? Is it comparable to say the downconverted output of DVCPROHD deck?

    Thanks in advance.

I haven’t had a lot of experience with DVC ProHD RT downconversions…but I’ve been impressed with my LH’s quality in that respect when I’ve had a need for it.

Thanks Tim, I notice AJA describe the Xena 2K as providing “broadcast-quality downconversion”, but the LHe doesn’t have the “broadcast” description in it’s downconversion capabilities. I wonder if this means it is less than ideal?

    Peter,

the Xena LH/LHe cards also do down conversion using hardware broadcast quality. This is an unfortunate communication mistake that we’ll be sure to clarify. Thanks for pointing it out.

Many thanks for the reply. But how in your opinion does the aliasing and general downconverted quality look compared to that coming out of a HDCAM or DVCPROHD deck?

    Peter,

Im quite certain you’ll be pleased with the quality of the downconversion. I would be fairly surprised if you could tell the difference between the downconvert from Xena LH, and the downconvert from a high end deck.

    Me too… 🙂

Seriously, I think this may be one of the AJA cards’ sweetest spots…at least from what else I’ve personally seen out there.

We use our LH card for HDCAM downconversions to SDI for commercial broadcast playback – in a word “beautiful”.

Yes, I suppose that having my noggin in the header makes me appear a little biased…
