Quicktime Not Capturing Correctly
We are using a Xena LS card in a dual 2.4 Xeon running Windows XP. I wanted to try Quicktime capture in Premiere Pro 2.0 so I installed the trial version with Quicktime 7.
The card is set to capture 720×486 29.97 and it seems ok in PP but Quicktime plays it back as 720×720. Other programs see it that way too.
Any suggestions? I’ve tried reinstalling Quicktime and even running QT 6.4 but same problem. We are using the Quicktime files for another program so they need to be seen as the correct resolution. I don’t have Quicktime Pro installed, but not sure that would help.
Currently, when they are played back in Quicktime the bottom part of the image shows white, where the 486 pixels stop.

I have lots of footage capture in Quicktime 2Vuy codec in premiere pro 2.0. I have not had any problems with them in quicktime, combustion, or after effects. Have you have transfered the footage to another machine? If you have you must install the AJA quicktime codecs on that machine. A copy of the files can be found in your ?:\Program Files\AJA\Windows\Codecs\QuickTime Directory. Copy the Xena.qtx file to the other computers c:\Program Files\Quicktime\QTSystem directory.

I don’t think that is our problem. This is happening on the same machine we’re capturing on, immediately after capture.

Hi,
You installed the Premiere Pro Trial copy from Adobe? If so, this is not supported nor tested with XENA…and I believe does not offer full functionality, so therefore may not fully support XENA’s capabilties and software as well.

try capturing with machina!

We tried Machina. It keeps reporting dropped frames yet we can’t isolate they are actually happening. Also, it doesn’t abort when they drop. (If there is a setting to override that I don’t know about it)
It’s not useful to have a dropped frame warning if it keeps going and you have no idea where it supposedly dropped. Final Cut and Blackmagic’s utility can abort immediately.
We have to be able to trust it captured correctly without going through an hour long clip and looking for dropped frames.

Lets get back to the problem. I have tested this with the tryout version of Premiere Pro 2.0 and have had no problems. Can you list your exact settings for your capture setup? In the meantime I will see about posting a screenshot of the capture setups. It would also help if you could post a sample (few frames) mov for us to look at.

We figured it out, at least the 720×720 capture issue.
We installed Quicktime on the PC using the standalone installer from Apple downloads. We went back and installed the standard iTunesSetup.exe version from Quicktime.com and now it works. I really didn’t want to have to install iTunes as well but looks like the only solution.
We’ve confirmed this by uninstalling and reinstalling from the stand alone version and it breaks it again.
We have some other problems as well though, and these showed up in Machina too.
We are doing long captures. We’ve seen problems where the video will all of sudden go white and the audio will get distorted. It has happened on multiple captures using 2.0 of the drivers usually an hour or so into the Quicktime.

Can you give me specifics of ALL your capture settings on these long capture tests? Also what is your source, and what are your system specs?
