I have an AJA Io HD, connected via BNC connectors to a Sony PVW-2800 Betcam SP, also a Sony DVR-20 D-2 Composite Digital, and an iMac Core i7 processor quad core (will be getting a Mac Pro soon). I’m trying to digitize a bunch of beta tapes. I would like to choose the best format for the digital output. Basically the file type, type of digital video file. Is DV my best choice? Any codecs or plugins needed? Should I back up the beta tapes to digital and then convert? Also, is encoding necessary? Any compression involved?

the IoHD is not certified to work on that machine. you cannot have any other storage attached to the imac- the IoHD takes the entire FW bandwidth.
