  Audio/video out of sync playing a sequence

  Mac Pro with 14 GB RAM, all clean install of 10.6.2 and FCS3. Latest drivers from Aja.

  Everything works fine – but one thing (that I noticed even in Leopard)
  When I start playing a sequence (DVCPRO50, 625i, 16:9) audio and video is out of sync. Not much, but some. But after a while it seems to “repair” and it’s seems to be in sync.

  Quite puzzling. Have you experienced any of this?

  Any ideas where I can start look?

  what card are you using.?

  if you are using a Kona 3 or LHI you will need to update the firmware on the card manually after installing the drivers.

  Oops, I obviouslly forgot to write that I’m with the IoHD. It resides on the internal FW800 port on the Mac, and then I have a PCIe adapter with two FW800 ports, for my external drives.

  please re-run the 7.01 IoHD installer and follow it exactly.

  it should force the firmware update/ Note that you MUST be on fcp 7.01 with the IoHD 7.01 updater also.

  is the delay in the audio because of pre-processiing of the audio because it is some not at the proper settings?

  Have the audio files been rendered/ mixed down?

  Are the audio and video files on the same or different drives? I ask this because audio requires faster seeks and video needs faster spindle speed.
  When the files are on the same FW drives sometimes those to opposing actions can cause delays in the playback

  OK, I’ll do a re-install of the Aja drivers on Monday when back at work.
  No pre-processing of audio – it’s recorded from the camera.

  Normally I do not have to mixdown or render audio files when they are just syncs, but I could of course do that.

  (But I always mixdown audio prior making self-contained QT files for later processing/encoding).

  All footage (audio, video, P2 files) resides on the same FW drive.
  (Have never even tried to keep assets on anything but the same drive…)
