    Here’s the config. I’m contemplating:

I’m getting a DVC Pro 50 camcorder with SDI out. I want to get that signal into my iMac that only has FW 400 & 800 inputs. No way to install a card on that computer. Of course, there is no deck control.

Will the AJA IO ld be sufficient to get that SDI signal into the Mac via firewire? What issues or problems will I be facing? I’ve been editing DVCAM for years so this work-flow is new to me.

    Editing with FCP 6.

    thanks

and what drive will you record on? You can’t use a FW drive, since you are using the FW buss for the I/O LD.

    hmmm,

Right now I have an external FW drive I record media to (DV), so you’re saying I need a SCSI or RAID drive. How would I integrate that into an iMac. I would assume that’s not do-able.

    thanks

Well, I guess the solution would be to use a DVC Pro 50 deck with FW out and bypass the AJA altogether. No?

the solution is to not use an iMac for professional applications.

The IoHD is not certified to run on an iMac since it does not allow for capture to bus secondary to the FW.

so no it will not work for you.
