capture video to audio 2 frames late
Posted by Carsten Orlt on January 4, 2008 at 1:03 amstill working out the best setup for my ioHD…
one thing that I noticed was that on one day (MacBookPro w.Tiger and all the latest updates) when capturing from a Panasonic 1200 via SDI I did get a consistent video to audio delay of 2 frames. So to get it back in sync I have to delay the audio by 2 in my timeline for those clips.
At least it is consistent 🙂Anybody else seen this before?
Cheers

in the vtr because that’s the only way 720p25 over 60p can be played back by either the 1200 or 1400. and you can’t capture 720p25 over 60p via firewire.

You are absolutely right. I like to be thourough. This is the ioHD forum, not the Final CUt forum. If you capture 720p60, is out of sync?

January 4, 2008 at 5:50 amThe reason I ask is that with 720p24 material, the audio is usually two frames out. Perhaps it’s the same for 720p25.

I really appreciate you taking the time to be the most active on the forum!
Allow me one little note: If you would have posted this response directly we would have both saved several posts and therefor time.
I can’t test 720p24 because I only have 720p25 footage. So for now it is something I’ll keep an eye on.
Anyhow, thanks again!

January 4, 2008 at 6:20 amWell, I don’t have any 720p25 material to test, so I have to ask questions. I am sorry my thoroughness bothers you. It’s not like there’s an automatic answer. You are taking 25p material extracting from an NTSC frame rate and cross converting (i know the workflow is supported via Panasonic) on tiop of that you are capturing via an ioHD. There’s a bunch of stuff that could be wrong in that chain and since I don’t have the 720p25 material to test, I rule out the first thing…is it out of sync on the tape or is it just after capture. If so, then it’s probably the 2 frame varicam delay that is similar to how it records audio for 24p material as well. There’s nothing worse than spreading misinformation about workflows.
Sorry man, just trying to help and sorry if it’s not going fast enough.
