Can I capture VCR video/audio via the AJA Io?

I had it going out from the VCR (RCA) into the AJA (SVideo) but it looked fuzzy/grainy. I tried going in into Composite, and it looks very clean but the video jumps constantly and the audio gives horrible glitches. We tried tracking, but it wasnt. We tested the VCR and tapes, but they are all fine. This leaves only the AJAIo as the culprit… or rather a setting in FCP thats not allowing me to capture clean.

Is there an specific setting/preset that needs to be selected for the VCR to come in clean?

    My Hardware and Settings:

    FCP HD (4.5)
    AJAIo (1.1 Drivers)
    Mac OSX 10.3.9

    Thank you for any help!!!!

I am very surprised by your results, as there is a frame sync on the front end of the AJA I/O to capture unstable sources like your VHS machine.
I ASSUME that it works ok with Beta VTR’s, etc.

You should contact AJA support to discuss this issue. You have the latest I/O drivers, but I ASSUME that you downloaded the AJA Pro I/O control panel, and updated your firmware – am I correct about this !!! Because your VHS should be working .

I had a similar problem going directly from a consumer grade VHS player into Io. It seems that the Io frame sync can not handle the errors. I got a used FOR.A FA-210 TBC off E-Bay and that took care of the problem. No problem with my Beta VCR because it has a built in TBC.
