Anyone has any info if all is fine with this combination?
Maybe some PAL fixes? (PAL is something Apple is really not looking into and it is bothering me more and more!)
We are currently running 10.4.2, QT 7.0.2 and FCP 5.0.3, but FCP is a bit shaky (stops from time to time and it has to be restarted very hard by turning computer off by pushing a power button) and I am looking into upgrade of all software on it.
    All input is appreciated.

Can you elaborate more about the PAL issues that you want Apple to fix ?

I’m in PAL land and I would love to hear about your PAL issues in case I’m not aware of it.

    Thanks,

[Jadranko Gudan] “FCP is a bit shaky (stops from time to time and it has to be restarted very hard by turning computer off by pushing a power button)”

Do you by chance have a Sonnet Tempo-X SATA card installed? If so, go to the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences and put both sleep timer controls to “never”, and uncheck the “Put the hard disk to sleep when possible” box. The ‘freezing” behavior you described could be caused by a conflict with their firmware and Apple’s automatic sleep functions.

    Just a thought.

Issues are many. The most annoying is having the wrong “Easy setups” for all PAL setups possible. Yes, I know that we can make new ones, but then a new editor comes and loads an “Easy setup” and all is screwed again. Wrong fields, wrong pixel aspect …

After that we had problems with HDV in PAL (all sort of break downs when doing HDV).
I am afraid that Aja is also a bit responsible here but can not be sure about it.

Nope we do not use SATA drives, but it is very good thinking.
That was the first thing I was looking at as we are using Atto UL4D and Medea RTS 5/480, but that did not help. Disks are spining and you can do what ever you want on that Mac except anything on FCP (even can not Force quit it).
Also, I heard about that problem several times from people in PAL lands, so it could be either FCP or OSX.

Yes the Easy-Setup for PAL has problem with wrong field dominance and frame size and we’ve reported them to AJA already.

As for the HDV-PAL issues, we haven’t gotten out feet wet yet but it’ll be great if you can share your issues so we know what to expect. Is it to do with capture, editing or downcoversion ?

Suggest you read these posts on the Apple Quicktime forum. Run the uninstaller and upgrade back up to 7.03

    Problems appear mostly in editing.
Like yesterday evening when one big rendering killed the whole Mac for three times in a row and when we put it to be renedered bit by bit all was fine.
I never heard something like that from anyone in NTSC land, but here is the chance for all people on group to gimme other oppinions.
