Soundtrack Pro works with IO…or does it???
OK, not having read up on the status of IO driver compatibility with Soundtrack Pro, I just found the setting in STP prefs for Video Output, and set them to ProIO component, and the video popped up in my broadcast monitor. Awesome. Also the audio came out of the IO with no problems. And then it stopped. There’s no Refresh AV Devices command in STP that I can find, and now STP won’t output audio OR video through the IO. FCP still works fine with both audio and video out. I trashed the only prefs file for STP I could find, cycled the power on the IO, refreshed devices in FCP then quit FCP and opened an STP project. Audio and video are now gone unless I use the Mac built-in audio output (and video within the software).
Any similar experiences out there? Workarounds? Help???

STP requires Apple’s core audio coding. The IO is not core audio compliant for STP. I asked AJA about this when STP first came out and this was the answer I got. Maybe if they recode the IO software it might work, but I would not hold out for that to happen. To many new products to come from AJA and the IO will stay as is. The Kona2 card is core audio compliant, so you could use that instead with STP.

I also have the Kona on this machine, and I did try using that, but there were major problems with the audio…digital distortion but not like the level was too high, it actually sounded muffled and distorted all at once. I’ll do some more tests with the Kona.

If you have to use the Apple audio out in a studio environment you might consider using a level matching and line balancing solution like the Matchbox from Henry Engineering. It’s a bidirectional device, that handles sources from -10 dBv to +4 dBm balanced 600 ohm output suitable for long runs. Is this the Kona2 or older Kona card? The older Kona card is not going to work. Did you set up your Control panel properly? You might have some cross over problems if you do not have the right channels selected.

I’d say he is just lucky 🙂 Is he running Tiger 10.4.2 or 10.3.9?

I’m using the Kona2. Works fine when using FCP but not STP. I’ll take a look at the control panel settings tomorrow.
