  • Issue with Aspec ration in AE 5.5

    Hi guys,

I’m having an issue with the aspect ration in AE5.5! I have shot video in widescreen 16:9 and dumped it to the computer as .avi – when i import into my Premiere 6 project which is set up for PAL widescreen the files look normal BUT when i open that Premiere project in AE it squashes everything into a normal TV res (not widescreen). I have changed the composition to be 16:9 but still doesn’t seem to help.

However, when i select the arrow on the right hand side of my Preview window and go into ‘View Options’ and check the box that says ‘Pixel Aspect Ration Correction’ it fixes everything up and looks the way it should. This however is not a true correction and is simply a visual correction because the output is still not 16:9

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks in advanced!

    Best regards,
    Nick.

Select the avi in the project window, by right-clicking it, choose [interpret footage] from the menu, then select [main] from the sub-menu.

in the lower region from this screen that’ll pop-up you’ll find the pixel apect ration. here you’ll find the correct setting for your footage.

    Cheers, Lars

It’s aspect ratio, not aspec ration. 🙂

The problem is the way i’m understand how Premiere builds the project window and how AE builds the comp window. If you forget the footage all together and just create a 720×576 widescreen 1.42 project in both applications, the size is vastly different. Premiere seems to have the actual pixel ration set locked on but AE you can turn it on and off from the right hand side of the PAR window (in AE i’m talking). I’m trying to work out why AE handles it differently!

    Thanks for the help:)
