May 28, 2005 at 3:02 amNo, its DVCPro50p – i guess it’s 60p. i’m not quite sure. they quit making them though. i know aja will do the panasonic codecs, i was just curious about this one. all i know is that it says DVCpro50 on the side of the camera, with an orange P right next to it. it’s not a 900, so i know it doesnt do 24p.

The camera is called a PD-900WA the precessor to the SDX-900. Well before there was 24P there was 60P. The camera can record in dvcpro, dvcpro 50 interlace modes as well as 480 Progressive scan mode.
The downside is Apple never got this 60P codec into FCP althought there was discussion about it way back in 2000.
480P is a basically poor man HD and will uprez to 720P or 1080i quite well.
60P is great for slow mo high speed capture.

May 28, 2005 at 4:38 pmAre there any work arounds to getting it in FCP? Maybe like laying it off to MiniDV or BetaSP? I’m working in :30 spot production so it’s not like i’m going to have a ton of footage.

May 31, 2005 at 1:33 amIf you have a deck that plays the tape, and it has an SDI out, that should be compatible with regular SD for capture by the Io into whatever codec your want your sequence to be.

May 31, 2005 at 1:39 pmDino, I do have the deck with SDI. So this means I can capture into a 10 bit uncompressed sequence? I’n not quite sure how I would set up my capture & sequence settings with this. would I just use the Io DVCpro50 settings?

The AJ-D950 will downconvert to 60i interlace via the sdi outputs. This will allow you to input the footage into any of the 8 bit or 10 bit codecs over even dv50 because it is interlaced. You do however maintain the advantages of having originated in progressive.
You need to set up the menus to properly output 60i instead of progressive via SDI.

June 7, 2005 at 7:06 pmHey Tony. I’m having no luck at all setting up the menus in the 950. the footage is coming out it with vertical banded transparent strips. any suggestions?
