Illegal levels when down converting HD to SD
Hi there
Editing on FCP7 and AJA Kona-LHi card on well spec’d Mac.
We film and edit entirely in HD, but need to supply our UK broadcaster with Digibeta TX tapes for SD broadcast. We’re very careful to ensure that the RGB levels leaving FCP are legal.
We use the Kona card to down convert the HD timeline to SD suitable for the Digibeta deck, but we’ve had our tapes fail the Tech Review process because of illegal levels. When I replay our digibeta copies I find that the recorded levels are indeed often way over 100% on the waveform monitor, and also fall way below O% . This is despite the FCP waveform monitor says the output leaving FCP is within legal levels.
I’ve tried every conceivable output setting on the AJA control panel, but with no luck.
Any ideas?
Pete
