Premiere & Final Cut Use Same Card?
Posted by Peter Tours on October 13, 2011 at 3:25 pmCan my Kona Lhi card that I use with FCP7 also be used with PP5 on the same Mac? Can the drivers co-exist?

October 13, 2011 at 3:28 pmYep, the Driver for the card itself is the same.
You just need to install the CS 5.5 plug-ins so Premiere Pro can use the card. Be aware that as of right now there is sluggish performance from Premiere Pro / AJA Kona and the workaround to improve performance is to set the Preferences > Player to Adobe.
Also you need to set the Preferences > Audio Hardware to anything BUT the AJA Kona.

October 13, 2011 at 3:33 pmI believe you have to step up to 5.5 for the latest plug-ins, but you can look at the Kona LHi Support page to find out for sure. I believe there is a plug-in for CS5, but 5.5 is definitely very stable.

October 19, 2011 at 1:20 amJust heard from AJA and current software has a known issue that does not allow component analog output. I have composite (only as a “video presence detector”) and HDMI. I don’t have an SDI monitor so don’t know if that works. AJA says component analog will be in next version.
Both FCP7 and PP5 work OK on same card, just need to save preset for each for quick setup.

The latest plug-in from AJA is for CS 5.5 I believe.

October 20, 2011 at 12:37 pmThanks for the reply Walter.
Yes the lastest Kona driver is for CS5.5 but I installed the one for CS5 – version: “AJA Mac Plug-ins for Adobe CS5 Version 8.5”
As the driver and CS version were the same I was suprised not to get a picture on the external display…..?!
Wondered if anyone had that combination working?David Scott,

October 20, 2011 at 12:42 pmFor what it’s worth, with the same driver I get composite and HDMI.

October 20, 2011 at 12:58 pmI think that issue where component doesn’t work is only if you have Lion installed.
We are running FCP 7 & CS 5.5. We run component out to a BETA deck and then to an SD monitor and we run HDMI to a TV and ti works fine on the system running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 but the compenent doesn’t work on the 2 systems with Lion.
We have 4 systems and of the 2 that run Snow Leopard only the one has the lag issue in Premiere and for me switching to the Adobe Player doesn’t fix it. I am talking about Lag in the timeline not when playing clips so maybe it’s a different thing Walter is talking about.
