    Hi all,
In the Kona 3 control panel, I see that there is 3 options for the pulldown for the 24 to 30 fps conversion…
Which pulldown do you recommend adding for monitoring an HD 1080/24p timeline on SD NTSC monitor and/or dubbing to Beta SP from my secondary output? 2:3:2:3? or 2;3:3:2?…

    Thanks

You won’t necessarily be able to monitor HD on an SD monitor unless it’s a CRT Sony L series version2 (serial number starts with 200) and you’ll need to monitor component for that or if it’s HD compliant and supports 24P.
As for the downconvert to BetaSP you’ll want 2:3:2:3 and that will need to be component unless you have a D75

    Thanks Doug…

    This answers my question…

Another question… Is there a time that one would need the 2:3:3:2 pulldown rather than a 2:3:2:3? Is it there for different scenarios?

    Thanks

I have no Idea why someone would want to use that cadence. It’s the 24PA cadence
perhaps to export to someone wanting that but why?? No idea

When removing the pulldown to get back to 24p, Advanced pulldown creates an ‘easier’ cadence removal as it’s just removing the one interlaced frame. In traditional 3:2 pulldown, there’s two interlaced frames, so you have to take a field from two different frames (BC, CD) to reconstruct the C frame.

I should add, that being said, I am unsure of any device that would recognize the 24pA pulldown pattern, unless it was laid to dv/dv50 with the proper metadata via firewire.
