iTunes Coldplay
Has anyone tried to do the burst of plasma or smoke in the new iTunes commercial with Coldplay? I love this and have tried a bunch of stuff and just can’t get there.

There’s a possibility that it was done using Particle Illusion. This is the “secret weapon” of the visual effects world. It’s cheap, and it can do some killer effects. Essentially it’s a 2D particle system that just spits out small bitmaps which can be custom made by the user, or one can use the extensive libraries which come with it.

There’s also the possibility that it was done using FumeFX in 3D Studio, a real-world smoke and fire simulator that is hard to match for realistic (and surreal) effects:

I was also blown away by the coldplay ad. ive spent weeks trying to find out how it was done.
I asked the makers of the commercial ben logan of logan tv. they said it was done in Maya and AE.
I also thought Fumefx would do that well. Does anyone else think they know how you could do those fluid particles following the guitar etc.and also Mr Burker, you work at WMUR. that is super awesome, Im an upcoming filmmaker and vfx artist in Manchester NH. i work at mcam tv down the road from u guys and also freelance. Now i have someone i can ask about this type of stuff.
