  Considering a new mac pro with a Kona LHi card.

  How big a role does the card play in a typical edit? In a DV or HDV world does it allow the timeline in Final Cut run smoother without dropping frames to go directly to tape?

  Does it speed up renders to QT files, or FLV?

  Does it lighten the load off the processors?

  Capture…output…view your footage on an external monitor…take the task of unsqueezing anamorphic footage off of the computer and GFX card and shouldering it.

  No. It allows you to output to non-firewire sources. And capture from non-firewire sources. And upconvert SD to HD, HD to SD, cross convert 720p to 1080i. Capture HDV as ProRes…

  Yes…when it comes to anamorphic footage, as mentioned above.
