    Hi,

I’m sure this has been asked in some form, but most of the posts are trying to fix it after the edit. I’m will try and ask my question before my edit!

Source material is HDCAM 1080 24p. I don’t have the tapes yet, so I don’t know the exact format, but it’s definitely 24 frame.

    Output will be to DigiBeta.

    I will be using:

    MacPro
    Kona LHe
    Sony HDW 1800
    Sony DVWA500
    Final Cut 6.0.4

My question: when is it best to convert from 24 frame to 60i? I’ve done plenty of down-converting using the Kona, but never frame rate conversion. Does the Kona do a good job of this? Is it better to add pull-down as I injest? Or convert the footage after injest before the edit?

    Thanks for your input.

    [Gordon Gurley]
My question: when is it best to convert from 24 frame to 60i?”

When you are doing the final output. The Kona card will add the proper pulldown for you.

[Gordon Gurley] “Does the Kona do a good job of this?”

    Yes.

[Gordon Gurley] “Is it better to add pull-down as I injest?”

No. FCP and the Kona cannot convert the frame rate upon capture, but outputting 23.98 to 29.97 is no sweat.
