OT – Music Library Suggestions
Posted by Paul Leone on October 6, 2005 at 12:14 pmWe are looking for a music library that would be good for HGTV/PBS style programming. I’ve used Killer Tracks and Non Stop and like them both, but they don’t really fit my needs here i.e they may have 2-3 good CDs that I’ll use, but the rest won’t work for me. Any suggestions. I know this is an open ended question, but the web is just to vast to look for this sort of thing.
Sorry for the OT post, but I know you folks do all kinds of work and would be able to help.
Thanks,
Paul

October 7, 2005 at 7:22 pmCheck out firstcom, they are huge and will be able to help you out. There actually are discs called “Home and Garden” and similar. I also use Video Helper (and love it) but PBS doesn’t come to mind when you hear their tracks!

October 9, 2005 at 8:32 pmWe have used Firstcom for over 10 years. I know it is a popular library because I will be in my car listening to the radio, at home watching TV or even on hold with my bank and I hear music which I have used in my videos over the years.
They have some tracks which you would swear are pop songs you recognize. I’m big into using acoustic underscores, which they have a plethora of.Do you know how much a plethora is?
No? Then how can you say they have a plethora of acoustic underscores!Sorry, had a Three Amigos flashback. Must be the coffee. Long weekend editing.
Which reminds me, I should find some music for my current project. Hmm, what shall it be.
Aha…acoustic underscores – brilliant!
I really need some sleep.Mike

October 10, 2005 at 5:21 pmI also highly recommend FirstCom. They have obtained teh libraries of several other companies, so as of any that I am aware of, their library is the largest, andtheir music is easily editable for length, along with the fact almost all selections have several lengths available. I have been using them for over 16 years not.

October 11, 2005 at 7:01 pmWe used FirstCom for several years also. The downside is you begin to hear their music in everyone else’s spots. We moved to StudioCutz buyout library and also use Digital Juice’s BackTraxx. We are a PBS affiliate and need underscores and mellow cuts for funder credits. We also use SmartSound for scoring parts of long form projects and for short pieces as well. Between the three we usually find something that fits.

October 12, 2005 at 3:01 amHow about Smartsound Sonic Fire Pro? Makes clips the exact length you need. Can preview and download new clips as you need them.
