    Hi All,
We are producing our first showreel and need some cool audio. We don’t really want to run with the Techno thing and was wondering if anyone knows of any reference sites as to where we can purchase royalty free music that would suit a showreel. Most of the sites we have looked at have a really generic corporate sound. We are looking for something that would suite more of a design reel.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For decent non-generic music, you should go to a small sound shop or even go directly to the composer.
A wonderful audio shop gave a presentation at last year’s MOOV conference in NYC. I don’t have time to track down the company name, but the event is sponsored by the NYC aiga who could help you.

Otherwise, Soundogs has good buzz in the industry for FX. You could check out their music.

We have Sonicfire and it might be just the thing for you. Garage Band and The Apple looping program are also nice, but those require you to have a little more musical or at least rythmic ability to get a usable product. But Sonicfire, hey, a monkey could run it,it’s like musical legos, and it sounds like custom composed music.

If you want original music you could go with Dazmo. They do pretty much all of our original music, and they are absolutely fantastic. There website is https://dazmomusique.com/v2/mainDazmoMusic.asp?language=0

They are located here in Montreal….for anyone who is a canuck, you will maybe recognize Mitsou, this is her and her boyfriend’s shop. I don’t know if Mitsou was big in the States….

Hope this helps, and no this is not a plug for another company…. 😉
