  dvcpro hd 1080i/50 fcp, format & workflow

  hi, i’m new to dvcpro hd format and to fcp.

  I’m working in fcp 5.0.4 and I’ve imported my mxf media from a p2 hard disk from panasonic. The format is dvcpro hd 1080i/50, 1440×1080 (anamorfic).

  My media looks all fine, but editing it in a project and sequence set to use dvcpro hd 1080i/50 compression, it looks in the wrong format: smaller size and 2 black bars in each size.
  Editing it in a new project and sequence set to use no kind of compression, it looks totally fine, but as the media uses this compression (even if I captured it again), it means I would have to render it.

  Can somebody explain me why is it happening and what’s the best solution?

  Also, I would like to know what’s the best way to finish the project. There’s no online and a part of ending on tape I need a qt. From mxf to finish in a qt with dvcpro hd is the best solution?

  That’s the standard frame size for 1080i/50 DVCPro HD.

  Ensure that your Sequence Settings are truly set for the correct format.

  Ensure that no Distortion has been applied to your clips by FCP. This can sometimes happen if you place the clips into the wrong Sequence settings. Your Distortion should be set to 0 if you’re in the correct Sequence.

  thanks a lot for the quick reply.
  Yes, the format is 1440×1080 and looking at the clip attributes at my seq they still have this one.
  There’s no distortion at all, as I was just starting the project and I haven’t even done anything!
  And my seq settings are:
  -frame size: 1440×1080
  -aspect rario: hd 1440×1080 16:9
  -pixel aspect ratio: hd 1440×1080
  -the anamorphic 16:9 box checked
  -upper field
  -editing timebase: 25
  -quicktime video settings: compressor: dvcpro hd 1080i50

  when I change this last thing, the compression to none is when it looks fine but then the media need to be rendered as it’s not their original format.

  any other idea?

  Use the DVCPro HD 1080i/50 Sequence Preset, do not change it. You do NOT check the Anamorphic box in that sequence preset.
