Posted by Joe Pitts on May 20, 2006 at 11:42 pmJust to see if i’ve got this right….
If I want to Upconvert a lot of SD sources on digitize to HD…
and save them as HDV files on the server…
this is the card for me….. will it work with software besides the Apple Suite

May 21, 2006 at 1:30 amI wouldn’t capture to the HDV codec. I would use DVCPro HD if you’re trying to save drive space. MUCH better codec to work with than HDV.
And yes, the Kona 3 is the only Kona card on the PCIe machines that will offer SD to HD Upconvert.

May 21, 2006 at 3:15 amUpconvert from SD to HDV. Ouch. The man is a masochist! Listen to Walter and save yourself hours of render time and headache. Go with the DVCPro HD codec for offline.

May 21, 2006 at 3:15 amHi,
The hardware-based upconvert on the KONA 3 works via the KONA Control Panel software, so it can work outside of any application, as well as within. It also works in input passthrough (E-to-E) mode as well.
Thank you,

May 21, 2006 at 2:39 pmthere is a great misconception that HDV is HD – it ain’t. DVCProHD is dramatically a better codec. And if you have HDV footage you have to work with, get the incredible new AJA HD10AVA to convert your HDV stuff to HD-SDI, to stick it right into the Kona 3, without screwing around.
