  • Kona LS SDI problem…..

Posted by Adrian Zehn on March 14, 2006 at 4:49 pm

I am using a KONA LS card and am trying to go in SDI from a SONY DIGIBETA / IMX DECK (J-3 COMPACT PLAYER). No video signal. Have looked at all the settings in the control panel. Have no ideas on what else I could try.

    Any suggestions?

I assume you have the latest drivers installed and have chosen the SDI A/V easy setup?

    Hi Jeremy,

    Yes to both.

Hmm, I don’t have any experience with that deck so it’d be hard for me to help there. Have you tried the obvious like outputting via SDI straight to a monitor (this is to check the deck)? Has the LS ever worked? Once you are in FCP, the control panel should be taken over by FCP, so no matter what you enter there, FCP should have control over the Kona. Do you have the Kbox? Are your cables hooked up correctly? Are you sure?

    Hi,

No KBox….going direct from the deck to the kona.

I have used the analogue inputs and outputs on the kona before and they work fine.

Have tried different cables and two different decks.

I apologize in advance for making any assumptions, but I ASSUME that you have a J-3 that has SDI output (like a J-30SDI), and are not trying to use a model that does not have SDI outputs on it (you did not specify the exact model, and Sony has many J-3 models, some that do not have SDI outputs).

I would have tried taking the analog composite or analog component outputs of the VTR into the Kona LS, to see if that worked. I ASSUME that the VTR works, and that you have put the output of the VTR composite output on a TV monitor to make sure that it is working.

I assume that you have selected an easy setup with SDI in it, and that you have double checked the Audio/Video settings>Capture Presets, and double clicked on this menu, to make sure that SDI is the selected video input.

Just checking – there are A LOT of menu’s to check .

you can always take the SDI output of the Kona LS and feed back to itself to the SDI input and see if the control panel detects any input.
