BNC Timecode to RS422 converter
Hi,
Does anyone knows if there is such a device that can convert a BNC timecode output (from a camera) to 9pin RS422 ?
Basically say I am doing a tape recording on the camera but at the same time I also feed the SDI output signal into my FCP system to do a direct-to-disk capture and I want to have the same timecode generated from the camera be supplied to the FCP via the 9pin RS422.
Is there a converter that can take the timecode output from the camera and convert it to a 9pin RS422 ?

I am looking for this same capability. I have found a logging program called HDLog that has this option as an extra add on except it’d be tc out to USB in to your computer. I’m not sure if it will work with FCP though as I’m sure this device would need some sort of drivers.

Hey guys,
Used HD Log and it is a great program. The LTC to USB Timecode reader is wonderful. I have not used it with FCP, but since HD Log is a logging program you can use it to log the footage, and then capture later with FCP, or you can capture directly using HD Log and the Kona. Then you can use XML to import the clips into FCP. Completely transparent. The software and convertor are a bit pricey, but logging live at shoots has saved me weeks worth of logging afterwards so far.

Cool! Thanks Jared. I have had my eye on that for a bit, glad to know it works. Are you allowed to put log notes and everything? Where there separate drivers that came along with the USB reader or was that part of the hd log software?

No drivers with the TC reader. But, I don’t know if it will work with FCP, have not tried it. I mean all it really is a TC reader and does not control anything. To control a deck I use the the Kona card and RS 422 in the HD Log program from a deck.
But as far as long notes and what not, you have complete control. You can customize just about anything. I have set up the program to auto name each clip based on other fields and at a shoot I will just use the log notes to keep track and note each take. They have a trail version you might try. You will not have the TC reader, but you can see how it works with the Kona. I am not sure of the limitations on the trail version though, but should be worth a try.
