    FCP 5.04 Dual 2.5 G5 Kona 2 – All updates current.

I’m having no luck digitizing 720p 59.94 footage from an HDCAM SR tape. I need to edit my show in 720p 59.94, and FCP isn’t cooperating. I’m not sure if this is a Kona issue or a FCP issue. In reading other people’s problems, it seems like there is no easy solution.

My timecode is completely off once I capture my footage, and I’m getting double frames. If I’m capturing from a Sony Deck, what should my set up be set for? Should I create a Sony 59.94 template? Do I use the Panasonic 59.94 setup? Has anyone had any problems using the 720p 59.94 setup?

    Bob,

If you are coming off an SR deck then I think you should examine your workflow choices.

The SR deck does not output 720P and the KONA 2 does not do a cross conversion from 1080 to 720.

Maybe you could choose a 1080 DVCPRO HD codec to do your offline in, might eliminate many problems.

We’ve been told by many that the SR is the ONLY DVCAM HD deck that does record and playback 720p. We’ve just done a layoff in that format on that deck. Can someone who really knows clear this up? It was very confusing getting answers.

    Cheers,

My apologies. I made a mistake regarding the options with the SR deck.

I would contact apple’s FCP team to see if this deck has been approved yet for FCP. Maybe there is a patch.

I would create a custom set up with sony VTR control.

I would capture via HD-SDI to the DVCPRO HD codec.

Put a call in to AJA tech support to see if they have a custom setup they can e-mail to you in the interrim.

HDCAM-SR does record & play 720P. Are you capturing using both HD-SDI inputs? You need to feed the dual HD-SDI outs from the VTR to both inputs on the Kona. There’s too much picture data in HDCAM-SR for one HD-SDI cable to handle.
