  codec not found (kona 2)

  i just recently defragmented my drive and now when ive returned to Final cut, it won’t open all of the windows.

  when i double click on a seq. it says:

  “codec not found. you may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card.”

  so, i decided to reinstall the kona 2. this didn’t do anything.

  my files are all online, and there are kona settings availible in my easy set up leading me to believe that
  final cut recognizes the kona.

  whats going on????

  how do i get past this???

  Restart and repair permissions. What codec are you working in? What Kona drivers?

  forgot to mention specs…

  dual G5 2.5 ram
  final cut 4.5
  aja kona 2 (1.0 beta 336 kona codec component.)
  editing format: DVCPRO HD 720p.59.94

  its definately a driver problem b/c in the kona controll panel it says.

  “missing! fcp uncompressed 422 codec”
  and
  “missing! dvcproHD codec”

  all of my dv seq work.

  I ran disk utilities and repaired permissions. lets see how that works.

  however, i don’t know if it’ll do anything if i’m missing driver components.

  Where do i find them???

  when i select a dvcpro hd 720p seq. it reads also “out of memory.”

  even though, I’m set to a g-raid with 500 free GB

  What is that? I have never seen that spec before.

  What did you use to defrag your drive? Did you defrag your media drive or your system drive?

  Those codecs come with FCP, not Kona.

  look in your HardDrive -> Library -> QuickTime folder do you see the uncompressed or dvcPro hd codecs?

  I am familar with this problem as I had to deal with it myself.

  What is happening is FCP is having a problem acknowledging which codec you actually used earlier.

  My problem occurred when I jumped over from a BMD codec to the Apple 8 bit codec which is actually the same as the earlier codec but with the new name.

  In anycase the solution is to go right click on your sequence while it is in your browser.
  Then scroll to settings, select and compressor and even if the right codec is already there, put in another one and immediately change it back to the right codec and then hit ok.

  For example if BMD (the original codec) had been in the compressor setting , I change it to the apple 8 bit codec and hit ok.

  Now try to open the sequence and FCP should be able to open it.

  This problem can occur when you upgrade you version of FCP and codec names have changed.

  I discovered the fix by accident when I changed the compression settings out of frustration late one night and have never forgot this bug.
