  • What’s the go with The mac desktop Preview and the LHe ?

    Hi Guys,

It’s been discussed before but i do not think an answer was found.
Keep in mind what i’m using Pal Over here !

I’ve followed the Aja Manual as all good boys would do.
Now when i want to display Standard def on my broadcast monitor
and i go to the system pref display, only 1920*1080 or 108*720
are available no 720*576 nor 720*486 as it shoould accordidng to the manual page 59,
there is a picture as well.
I’m setting up this machine for Photoshop work and After FX.

    Quad 2.5 with Quadro fx 4500/4.5GB of Ram/Kona LHe.10.4.3 QT 7.03 tried 7.01 same deal !
I even install fcp to see if it was working in Standard def and it is…

I need to have the Desktop preview on the Broadcast monitor to work at Standard def
so the client can drag is Photoshop comp over and work on it !!
Simple isn’it ?? Photoshop support is advertised by AJA… Isn’t it
The Input Passthrough is working well (nice feature BTW)

The frame buffer for the Konal LH is stuck on 1080i (lol) and is downconverting the signal to 625I
to the Mac desktop preview !! making it useless for Std Def….

I tried everything, reinstalling QT, OS , reparing Permissions, i’ve installed virtually 100 systems
in the past few years with a different flavoured card so i know a thing or two about setting up these puppies,
That’s what i thought until now lol

Any Clues ?… i’ve just waisted my weekend on this silly setup….
    not impressed…

I will not even mentioned the VTR Exchange Thing …. lol

    Time for a cold shower

    Hi

    I have a Kona LH on a g5

i have the same problem trying to get a SD desktop on my system. (NTSC 720×486)

Apparently, because the kona LH is a HD card (with downconversion for SD)
the g5 only sees it as an HD Display card, hence those 2 choices in your
Display Sys Pref, and the downconverted output instead of native.

Which version of photoshop? I think CS2 has a “video output” that lets you pipe your comp out the LH card (or firewire) at SD resolution. go to the adobe site to check

Also, a program by Synthetic Aperture called Echo fire will take what ever is in your clipboard and run it out the card.

WE have not gotten to the point where its an issue Yet…however I thin we will go for the Photoshop Upgrade

I would hope kona would be looking at this as well, cuz not every app has a video out, and a Standard Def desktop preview is kinda crucial

    hope this helps

    bee eph

    Hi,

Photoshop CS2 only outputs through Firewire devices !!
What a bummer, i’ll be sending an email to AJA to find out more …

    i’ll let you know.

This is from an earlier post I made to Bob Flood. Please note the bold it has updated information.

If you want to use your NTSC (or PAL, please substitute Pal for NTSC in this post) monitor as an extended desktop, you download and install the kona control panel and click on the control tab. Set the default Kona output to Macintosh desktop. Then, click on the format tab and set your primary video format to 525i29.97 (or 625,etc). Click on the analog video out tab and make sure that the primary radio button is checked. Also, make sure that the analog component output of your Kona is connected the the analog input of your NTSC monitor.

Now go to the apple display preferences and open them. There’s a tick box that shows “Show displays in menu bar”, make sure that is on. Now, there’s a little icon in the main OSX menu bar that looks like an apple display. It should be up on the right side next to the clock. Click it and you should see list of displays and their corresponding resolutions, scroll down to the one that says “display” and choose 720×486 or 720×576. Now you should see a picture on your NTSC/PAL monitor. If all you have is HD resolutions available, keep scrolling down in the apple display preferences to a menu called “number of recent items” and check the number ten. Now, you should have a list of NTSC/PAL and some HD resolutions. If you want to preview your photoshop you must drag the window over to your NTSC/PAL monitor. Make sure you hit the arrangement tab in the display system preferences, as your extended desktop will now be situated in the middle of your two computer monitors (if in fact you have two computer monitors). You can then drag your extended desktop to whatever side you need it to be on.

    Jeremy

    Hi Jeremy,

[JeremyG] “download and install the kona control panel”

    Already installed[JeremyG]

“click on the format tab and set your primary video format to 525i29.97 (or 625,etc)” they are greyed out only hd rez are available.

[JeremyG] “Click on the analog video out tab and make sure that the primary radio button is checked. Also, make sure that the analog component output of your Kona is connected the the analog input of your NTSC monitor”

    the monitor is connected
[JeremyG] “”display” and choose 720×486 or 720×576″

as i said before not available[JeremyG] “number of recent items” and check the number ten”

tried that[JeremyG] “Now, you should have a list of NTSC/PAL and some HD resolutions.”

only HD rez available[JeremyG] “If you want to preview your photoshop you must drag the window over to your NTSC/PAL monitor.”

    i’m aware of that.

it seems there is an issue with the desktop preview and standard def with some cards
AJa is aware of this and said this will be fixed with the release of the new drivers according to an email sent by Aja tech support to our Australian distributor.

    thanks for your help though
