Two second black problem
Posted by Melvin Chong on December 24, 2005 at 4:55 amHi,
I have a LHe in new dual-core G5 with 2.5gb ram. This is the problem I faced. Whenever I do a insert edit, a two second black will be added into the end of the edit. Why is that ?
Cheers !

You are experiencing the “dark side” of FCP. Use the force to resist those “dark black” edits and use your powers for good.
But seriously could you provide more details about your problem? Are you inserting back to tape or a timeline? what vtr are you using? what is in your sequence etc etc?

Also be sure that you are inserting and that you have the “add black to end of edit” box unchecked in the edit to tape window.

I’m trying to insert 2 seconds from timeline into the tape.
Hi, David
Yes, that box is unchecked.

Still a more detailed explaination needed here.
Sequence settings?
Deck?
VTR control?
Have you marked ins an outs in the sequence?
Have you switched to editing mode from mastering mode in edit to tape?
Are you sure you are not assemble editing?
Is it just one shot that needs replacing?
Have you closed the project and restarted?
Did you trash FCP prefs files?
Are you running the latest driver/QT combo as recomended by AJA?David

December 25, 2005 at 4:11 pmI am experiencing the same problem with my LH(pcix). Blacks frames at the out point, on an insert edit. Everything is set properly, I’ve done it a thousand times with my io….ended up re-mastering entire show to work around.
Doing it in…
10 bit uncompressed NTSC to a uvw 1800
also in 8 bit 1080i downconverting to a digibeta anamorphic -

December 26, 2005 at 2:28 amIs it possible that your tape was striped or recorded where the VITC and the LTC are NOT identical? I setup my deck settings to read LTC only in case I come across a beta tape that was logged with VITC and the LTC is incorrect [or vice versa].
Also, I assume your deck is set to REF in INPUT VODEO mode, not REF while outputting.

December 28, 2005 at 6:15 pmI don’t know if you have found a solution or not yet, but a while ago I had the same problem. With a Kona SD, however, that was not the problem. In edit to tape I switched from Mastering mode to Editing. That seamed to do the trick and give me clean insert edits. Don’t know if you guys have tried that yet, but I thought it was at least worth a mention. Good luck!
