Oh brother, after about 4 hours playing with every setting, I cannot get the Kona card to send any video to my monitor. I literally replaced each cable from my Decklink card to the new connections very carefully, that only took about 10 minutes. I installed the card in slot 3, the Mac 2 gig says it’s there, my SCSI card is in the top slot and it’s working fine, I went into Mac prefs and set my audio to AJA and some funny things happen.

If I set the LH card to Mac Desktop, all the input settings revert to 720p and nothing dislays on my monitor. If I set it to pass through I can set all my analog input to 525i29.97 (where the f**k did they come up with that designation?)

What I thought was really cool about my Decklink card was that it automatically became part of my desktop when launched. Plus, as soon as I staretd working in AE or FCP it would display the work as part of my desktop in OSX, but the Kona card is not doing that. What the am I missing?

You don’t set it to Pass Through, that totally bypasses FCP.

Set it to either Mac Desktop or Black and close the Control Panel.

Now grab and Easy Setup in FCP using one of the AJA presets.

    Hey Walter,

This seems to be getting me half way there. The video outoput on the monitor I bought from you is chattering all over the place. Not sure what’s going on here, but this whole experience is weird, stareed with nothing and keep getting a little bit more each half hour or so…

Kona generally defaults to HD when you’re sitting on the desktop so that monitor will chatter because that’s an SD only monitor.

Go to the Kona Control Panel > Analog Out and select “Secondary 525” as your default video output.

That should get your default output to SD.

Does the video chatter when you’re in FCP with an SD default running?

Never mind, I found out that my ref connector was causing the problem. It all works as good as new.

Thank you for mentioning that Walter, even though his problem turned out to be a faulty connector. Once you are used to the Kona system, the above is pretty obvious, but I installed an LH last week and was having just this issue. I couldn’t understand why the control panel reverted to 720P every time it took control of the card when set to Macintosh Desktop. In retrospect it seems obvious that a computer desktop would be progressive scan, and that the signal would have to be converted to play on an NTSC monitor, but I wasn’t “getting it” at the time.

The worst part for me was that even though AJA had been great about quickly answering pre-sale tech support questions, I called and left voice-mail for the tech support guys explaining my problem and have never received a call back. I figured it out myself, but geez, after reading so much about the wonderful support AJA gives I must say I’m disappointed. I know it must have seemed like a “dumb question” once you “get it”, but there should be no such thing as a question you don’t answer in a tech support operation.
