Sony SRW-5500 12ch. audio
Posted by Nate Adams on August 25, 2005 at 4:35 pmCan anyone tell me how to arm all 12 channels on this deck? I can only get it to arm 4 channels (1-4).

August 25, 2005 at 6:18 pmYou need to switch the recording mode from HDCAM to HDCAM-SR, you’ll also need an HDCAM-SR tape.

August 25, 2005 at 6:39 pmThank you for your prompt response. It is in SR mode and it is an SR tape. An audio track assigned from FCP as ch 6 would come up on the deck as ch. 2. FCP ch. 7=SR ch. 3. Clearly there’s an assignement issue in the deck because when we do it manually and just crash record to the deck it’s fine. It seems like FCP is just not communicating with the deck prpoerly as it’s not arming the correct channels. We got around the problem currently by setting a long preroll of about 12 seconds. Once the deck gets going and is locked, we pull the deck out of remote, arm tracks 5-8, then drop the deck back into remote all before the actual edit happens (wihtin the preroll). Surprisingly…this worked. Not too cool though. Immediate problem is solved, but long term? I’d like to know why this is happening. It’s an expensive rental so it’s difficult to get time on this deck to tinker.

I would also report this to Apple FCP team. My guess is that they never even ran tests with this deck with FCP 5 and that this is more than likely an FCP issue. If you are routing the embedded audio it should “theoretically” work, but there is a chance that support has not yet been implemented and tested for this deck.

Dual Link has been tested more than you realize. Both Apple and AJA have hammered it for awhile now.
I have been able to lay 10 tracks down to SR, (FCP-5.02) the only issue I had was telling FCP to do the job correctly {in the audio out preset}. I was only able do it over HDSDI however.gary adcock

August 27, 2005 at 2:45 pmI had a similar problem with FCP 4.5 and the first driver for K2, outputting to DBeta 4-tracks. The timeline and audio channels were all set correctly, but the routing to the deck was completely off — ch. 1 going to ch. 4, etc. There were several questions about this early on here in this forum. One issue was that audio on tracks 3/4 that were NOT routed to CHANNEL 3/4 were getting patched incorrectly no matter what, and the workaround was to move them to tracks 5/6. The other troubleshoot on this was to use panther/tiger cache cleaner which solved the problem for a while. It’s been a while since I’ve output more than 4 tracks at a time, so I don’t know whether this was fixed completely for all deck drivers.
try also outputting from the Viewer rather than the Canvas. This was an old old workaround for an FCP “incompatible compression” conflict on edit to tape even though the sequence was fine.

August 28, 2005 at 12:20 amThanks gary. Maybe it is an issue of how FCP and Kona 2 driver have to interface with the OS and Core Audio.
