cinewave transition to kona 2 help
hey there all you ex cinewavers now migrating to kona
what is likely to happen when i open projects completed in cinewave on a kona 2 system? at best I’m thinking i will just have to re-render, but i have a horrible sinking feeling that all my old projects, clips, quicktime movies etc will give me the unsupported codec window nightmare
what is everyones experience on this – and technically what can i expect to encounter
system 1 G5DP 2.0 / 2.0G RAM / OS 10.3.8 / QT 6.5.2 / FCP HD 4.5 / CineWave 4.7 / Cinewave RT Pro/ Pro Digital Plus & Pro Analogue BOB

There was a thread about this somewhere…don’t remember, but check the Cinewave forum. I think the general thinking was it WILL work as long as you don’t have the Cinewave codecs installed. It has something to do with Targa and Blackmagic/other YUV codecs “fighting” for dominance.
I’m in the same boat as you…but now that Cinewave works with FCP5, Tiger, and QT7, I think I’ll hold off and see whatelse is in the pipe before I buy. Especially now that drivers are being released by the big players (Aurora, AJA, Blackmagic).

I haven’t tried it yet, but I thought the folks at AJA said the 2YUV (or is it YUV2) codec would allow playback of CineWave captured material. So you would set up your sequences to play back in that codec and it should work. Haven’t tried it as I honestly don’t have any CineWave related material here any longer so I can’t even test it for you.
