  String Christmas Lights w/ AE & Illustrator

  Have a question regarding the setup for a seemingly simple task – string christmas lights around the border of a 1920×1080 composition with alternating flashing between red and green bulbs. I’ve already designed the bulbs in Illustrator but am looking for a simple way to set up the scene in After Effects. Would creating shape layers from my .AI vector art and using a repeater be the simplest way to create the border? I would like the bulbs to be connected on a single string as well, with some organic motion as if the lights are strung up by pins around the border and bounce gently as they fall on.

  Any ideas are much appreciated, thanks.
