Visible background ad.
Posted by Romina Power on November 15, 2014 at 4:47 pmHello, everyone.
I’m making my graduation film (documentary) .Yesterday I and my cameraman made mistake – we shot light advertising sheet on background.
This interview is important to me . I’m looking for advice, how I make blur background ( or how I “fix” this ad). I can work with After Effects… but unfortunately I’m beginner .Is there hope for me?

November 15, 2014 at 5:28 pmHello Romina,
I assume you need to remove the intraceuticals logo (replacing it with white)?
If so, there should be hope! What duration is this shot?

November 15, 2014 at 10:45 pmAssuming you dont want to blur your talent—you are going to need to rotoscope her. Separate her from the background, blur the offending sign in the background. 3 layers, top layer is talent, middle layer is blurred, masked sign area only(including person), bottom layer untouched. The trick is the rotoscoping.
What you want to do is EDIT first, or you would effecting material you won’t use. Me, on the top layer, I would do a loose mask around the person, then just feather it. It’s pretty much accepted technique for blurring to have it be somewhat loose.

November 16, 2014 at 11:11 amI think John implied making the material shorter by suggesting to do the “edit first”.
For an edited 3 minutes worth of footage, a roto approach, as John has described, should do the trick.
Which RedGiant plugin were you intending to use? One of their keyers?
Since the actress’s face is a light colour with some bright reflections, which are close to the white of the sign, keying might be a little tricky.
Keying could perhaps be used to quickly generate the loose matte John mentions and could even help speed up more detailed keying or roto if required. It all depends how much the lighting changes on the face with respect to the sign.Graham Macfarlane – CGI specialist
