    Hi,
About a month ago I built a small server using FreeNAS. I love it. The speed is fantastic. I can finally move files around my house from system to system at 100MB/s. It was confusing learning about Jails and other features but now that I have the hang of it I’d highly recommend FreeNAS. I’m using it now for backing up 3 computers (2 mac, 1 windows) and Plex for media streaming.

We are using FreeNAS as shared storage.
4 workstations directly connected via 4 port Intel server card, Supermicro MB + Dual Xeon + 24GB ECC RAM, saturating 1G connections.

    Thanks Ivan,

How many hard drives in the pool? raidZ1 or raidZ2? Any flash or NVRAM for read or write caches?

5 drives, RAID Z1. For security that NAS is automaticaly Rsynced to another NAS in different room, and that is working very well. No ZIL or L2ARC. Some minimal tweaks on Freeness and clients.
During research we also had great results with:
    – OpenMediaVault (actually that is the same guy that created original FreeNAS), and
    – Napp-IT + OI
but we decided to go with FreeNAS.
