BRU PE Import Tool doesn’t recognize tape drive

I have three tapes that are missing their catalog files in BRU PE. I am trying to open the BRU PE import tool from the Applications folder on my Mac but I keep getting an error “The import tool needs at least one drive to import BRU tapes”. BRU PE works fine so I’m not sure what the issue is. I will add that this is the first time I’ve tried to use the import tool so it could be user error. Thanks for any help.

OS X 10.8.2
BRU PE 3.1.18 (Build 247)
HP StorageWorks Ultrium 3000 SAS

Check to make sure that the system recognizes the drive. Open System Profiler and check the “SAS” pane. Is the drive listed there?

Hey Tim,

Thanks for the response. BRU see’s the tape when I click “Identify this Tape” so I assume that BRU works fine. When I run the Import tool it doesn’t see the drive though.

I just realized that my last post didn’t stick – sorry about that.

What type of SAS HBA are you using? We’ve had issues with the way OS X Yosemite and El Capitan “downgrade” some vendors’ drivers.

ExpressSAS H680? I’m not totally sure if that’s what your asking. The firmware is up to date. Thanks.

Hey Tim,

Do you have any other suggestions or is there somewhere you can point me. As I say, BRU works fine I just can’t get the Import Tool to see the tape drive.

Since you’re using a normal SAS solution, there shouldn’t be any reason for the Import tool to see the hardware any differently from the other BRU tools.

Thanks Tim, they got me taken care of. The sent over updated versions of the tapectl and libctl tools which solved the problem.
