I am digitizing a few hundred betacam tapes. and i was wondering if anyone had any input on the best way to go about this, and what is the best way to compress them so they are still high quality files. They are all standard definition tapes.

The equipment i currently have is a blackmagic decklink sp card, a raidon storage system, and i have final cut pro right now as my way to capture the tapes.

any advice or recommendations on new equipment would be greatly appreciated

    thanks
    Nick

As long as you have a Mac Pro somewhere in there, then I would go with standard Apple ProRes422 codec in standard definition. It will look virtually identical to the source and not take up gobs of space. 1 hour of SD ProRes422 is about 22 GB.
