backup solutions for gfx area
Hi guys,
I’m looking at putting into place a solution that designers can push files/ projects (ranging from 1-5gb) to and from at the end of the day for backing up purposes and it needs to be raided
needs 4 mac computers connected to it
i’m new to this, so even if you can tell me what you are using would be helpful…. thanks

So this is for backup only? The designers won’t be working off this storage?
How much total storage do you think you’ll need?
Do you realize that this will protect you from the failure of an individual designer’s machine, but not from larger threats like fire, flood, theft, etc.?

yeah i know, I’m looking around 20tb maybe be more
at the moment just as a backup solution only for now

Hi Regan –
do you understand that a simple network (simple ethernet switch) with any MAC connected to a large RAID array will not only act as your backup solution , but as something you can work from. Normally, backups are cheap firewire or SATA drives, or LTO tape drives. The large RAID array is for active production – but you can certainly plug in a 16 – 32 TB RAID array to any MAC, connect it to your network, and do exactly what you want.
Of course a professional 16 – 32 TB drive array is not going to cost $1500.
